EAU CLAIRE, Wis. — Luther Midelfort – Mayo Health System is offering patients the Cancer Recovery and Fitness Program in collaboration with the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
Patients must complete a fitness evaluation before beginning the program. An exercise prescription then will be tailored to the individual’s abilities and needs. Patients must have a referral from their oncologist and clearance from their primary physician.
“We are excited to extend this opportunity in collaboration with UW-Eau Claire to improve patients’ survivorship journey,” said Barb Eidahl, registered nurse and director of Luther Midelfort’s Oncology Department.
The free program is offered two afternoons a week at UW-Eau Claire’s McPhee Center. Parking is available across the street from the McPhee Center in the metered Chippewa Valley Technical College lot.
The physical reconditioning program was developed by Matt Wiggins, chairman of UW-Eau Claire’s Kinesiology Department. The course is supervised by trained and qualified individuals from UW-Eau Claire. Previously, Wiggins was founder and director of the Exercise & Cancer Recovery Program at Murray State University in Murray, Ky.
