EAU CLAIRE, Wis. — Luther Midelfort physical therapist Mary Ellen Akan has been named supervisor of Occupational and Hand Therapy. Akan has supervised the Physical Therapy Department at Luther Midelfort since 2007 and now will supervise both departments.

Akan earned her master’s degree in physical therapy from Marquette University in Milwaukee and previously worked at Rose Medical Center in Denver before joining Luther Midelfort in 2005.
She says she values her work as a supervisor because of its role in improving patient care.
“I became a physical therapist to help people,” she says. “As a supervisor, I can help shape policies and processes that improve the quality of care for patients beyond those directly seen by me,” she says.
