EAU CLAIRE, Wis. — Luther Midelfort registered nurse Norb Knack accepted an invitation to serve on the Wisconsin Diabetes Advisory Group as a representative of the West Central Wisconsin Association of Diabetes Educators Chapter.
Knack, a Diabetes Education Department coordinator, has 25 years of professional experience as a diabetes specialist and 51 years of personal experience living with diabetes. Familiar with both sides of this devastating illness, Knack has dedicated himself to diabetes prevention and education in both his professional and personal life.
“I offer a unique viewpoint as a diabetes specialist who is also living with diabetes,” Knack says. “I strive to contribute to the Diabetes Advisory Group in the same way that I have contributed to other diabetes organizations in the past: to the best of my ability.”
The Wisconsin Diabetes Advisory Group was created in 1997 by the DPCP. The advisory group’s role is to offer expert counsel and advice concerning the agenda for diabetes care and prevention in Wisconsin as set by the DPCP, as well as to develop materials and guidelines for diabetes treatment to be used by healthcare professionals and patients.
According to the Wisconsin Diabetes Prevention and Control Program (DPCP), diabetes is the seventh-leading cause of death in the state, killing more than 1,200 residents and resulting in nearly $5 billion in healthcare costs each year.
