EAU CLAIRE, Wis. –– In October 2008, new regulations required all dialysis patient care technicians to become certified by April 2010 if they were working in dialysis as of October 2008. Luther Midelfort is proud to announce that 100 percent of dialysis staff members required to become certified by April have passed the certification exam on their first attempt.
The technicians are: Jean Pilgrim, Scott Eidahl, Mary Knickerbocker, Denise Hill, Tammy Sabaska, Amber Moessner, Jodean Laufenberg, Beverly Vergin, Jennifer Schwann, Nikki Bauer, Kyra Dierich, Julie Lane, Sue Novak and Jean Phillips.
To prepare for the exam, the staff members refreshed their skills by reviewing their detailed orientation training and working with Tamara Rein, nurse educator. Interested staff members also attended a daylong refresher course at Chippewa Valley Technical College.
“I am so proud of everyone for the hard work and dedication they put into preparing for this exam,” says Dawn Tweed, director of Dialysis and Nephrology. “It just goes to show what high-caliber employees we have here at Luther Midelfort.”
Education and training are so important in the dialysis area, Tweed said. “Since dialysis has many safety risks, it is so important to train our employees efficiently and effectively so they can give our patients the highest level of care possible,” she said.
